Come experience a fun excursion by railroad motor car this weekend, June 23-25 (10am-3pm). The Ride the Rails Festival is a unique event that takes you on a 5-mile round-trip ride from the Historic Mineral Bluff Depot over the mighty Toccoa to the Murphy Junction on Hogback Rd. You can also experience a ride on an authentic hand car. Remember those? Me, neither, as it’s a slightly before my time, but it sure does sound fun! After your ride you can explore the detailed scaled model train layout of the 1952 line from Marietta, Ga to Etowah, TN which is housed inside the historic 1887 L& N Depot.
If you are looking for an adventure, this Cashes Valley excursion is for you! Located only 4.5 miles from the cabin this completely off the grid trial goes deep into the mountains. Be forewarned though, this is only for those who are well prepared with a high clearance all-terrain, all-wheel drive vehicle. You will need this to cross numerous fjords and rocky terrain. If you follow the trail out about 3 miles or so you will be rewarded with cascading waterfalls, beautiful mountain laurel, and an old cemetery (Cashes Valley Church of Christ Cemetery) that dates back to the late 1800s.
